AUTOPAGE INTO CELLULAR Electronics-to-communications technology firm Autopage Holdings said on Tuesday it had reached a deal to acquire the cellular business of Radiospoor for R218-million. Autopage said it had also entered into an agreement to purchase a 24.95% shareholding in Autopage Cellular held by Cellcom, an independent cellular service provider operating in Britain, France and Monaco. The stake's purchase price is about R38million. It said the acquisitions would be funded by the issue of 88-million new ordinary shares in Autopage at R3 a share. The Radiospoor cellular business comprises the cellular contract subscription businesses of Radiospoor and Cellular Operations trading as Supercall.

My mom wanted a new cell phone contract. She is not familiar with new technology so she asked me to go with her to take out a new contract. We went into the Autopage branch at the Nothmead square in Benoni. Jon assisted us. He showed us the handet and got the neccessary paper work. Within 20 minutes we walked out of the shop new contract, new phone and a very happy mom! He was friendly and fast .... WELL DONE!

A young man helped us ( the manager) and he was very helpfull and tried his best to resolve my query. KAPLAN EQUITY ANALYSTS - Autopage, Netstar and UEC performance
Autopage, ALTECH's cellular service provider, and main contributor to revenue, added 11,500 contract subscribers in the period. Total contract subs are at 360,000. With prepaids, total subs are at 465,000. According to CEO Craig Venter, ARPUs are around R500 per sub per month. Churn is claimed to be 8.6%, which is very low. ALTECH feels that Autopage is in a good position regarding the pending outcome of the Least Cost Routing (LCR) court case. An interesting point was Autopage's view of the three mobile operators over the past 6 months: CellC - the most aggressive with discounted pricing and incentives to Autopage, MTN - good growth shown, Vodacom - a more consolidating view, not as aggressive, focusing on data and mobility. We calculate Autopage revenue at ZAR1249mln and operating profit at ZAR70mln. While growth will slow as our South African mobile market model shows, customer retention and a focus on new innovative products should keep this business producing cash for a long time to come.

They buy airtime at wholesale prices from existing operators and resell it to their own customers at discounted tariffs. Altech-owned Autopage -- keen on becoming a virtual operator -- is one of the players awaiting clarity on whether MVNOs would be legal in South Africa this year.
